Service Description

Family violence work is emotionally demanding, carries real physical and psychological risk for workers, and is characterised by high turnover and burnout across the sector. Practitioners are expected to hold risk in real time, work within stretched systems, maintain boundaries while building rapport, and remain regulated in the face of distressing disclosures. Many enter the field with lived experience of adversity, which is a strength but also requires deliberate self-awareness and supervision. The Eyes of a Practitioner Signature Program was developed by Melissa Walsh, a Specialist Family Violence Practitioner with more than 20 years in the social and community services sector, to address the gap between crisis-focused technical training and the practice wisdom, self-management and career sustainability that keep workers safe and effective over the long term. It is delivered through the Family Violence Institute and is supported by a 540-page trainer's guide with embedded workbooks.
